For Immediate Release
Rich Whitney, Matt Reichel Join Forces Wednesday; To Join SK Hand Tool Strikers and Attend Fundraiser

Though the 2010 general election is still 13 months away, and both candidates are not facing any opposition in the February Green Party Primary, Rich Whitney and Matt Reichel are wasting no time building their campaigns for these mid-term elections.

The two will spend Wednesday campaigning together for their bids for Illinois Governor and 5th District Congressman, respectively. They will begin by visiting striking workers from Teamsters Local 743 at SK Hand Tools, 3535 W. 47th St, at 2:00pm.

Later in the evening, they will host a fundraiser at the Globe Pub, 1934 W. Irving Park, in Chicago. The event starts at 7:00pm, and speeches will begin at 8:00pm. In addition to Reichel and Whitney, several progressive activists will address the crowd, including Illinois Green Party Chair Phil Huckelberry, AFSCME Local 2858 President Steve Edwards, and single-payer health care advocates Anne Scheetz and Ali Thebert.

Whitney drew headlines in 2006 by garnering 10.5% of the vote state-wide in the Illinois Gubernatorial race, while Reichel drew nearly 7% of the vote in the special election to replace current White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel earlier this year.

Reichel says: “My opponent, Congressman Mike Quigley, paints himself as a “reformer.” We cannot afford to reform the Democratic machine; we must defeat the machine.”
